As the decision to hike the cut-off marks in +2 for IIT entrance from 60% to 80% received intense opposition, HRD minister Kapil Sibal clarified that the government is not involved in IIT JEE reform process. Mr. Sibal said the decisions on JEE is taken by IITs themselves. The government has no intention of suggesting 80-85% in Class XII exam as the eligibility criteria for JEE.
Mr Sibal said: “The eligibility criteria to appear in JEE is decided by IITs themselves. The Government of India has no role to play and any report which suggests that there is a proposal to allow only those who obtain 80% marks in their Class XII examination to sit for JEE is baseless.”
“The institutes will submit a report in January 2010 to rationalize JEE. It is entirely their decision to decide on the eligibility criteria. It is they who will consider weightage is to be given to the Class XII examination” said Sibal.
