The answer key to this year's IIT-JEE paper was released by IIT-Kanpur on May 15, 2011. It was revealed that eight questions worth 30 marks had wrong, vague and incomplete descriptions. Of these incomplete questions, six questions worth 22 marks were from Mathematics section and two of eight marks questions in physics. IIT Kanpur has also said that three maths questions have been declared open. IIT Kanpur had conducted JEE this year. These revelations mean that every student who took IIT JEE 2011 will get 12 marks free. This is included in the overall 30 marks and will raise the cut off for Maths.
Other things that came in light is that three questions - two in maths and one in physics - have all the four correct choices. There are other discrepancies in Maths paper- there are two other questions which have more than one set of correct answers. Question 57 has BCD and BC as two sets of the correct answers. In Paper I, two maths questions, (Q. No. 55 and 66) have been declared open.
Other errors were that question number 64 has 3, 9 or 3 & 9 both as three sets of the correct answers. In physics, question 32 has three sets-BC, BD and BCD-as correct answers. In Paper II, physics number 32 has two sets - A and AC - as correct answers. In mathematics, question 53 has been declared open, while question 59 has two set of correct answers.
IIT JEE is one of the most prestigious engineering entrance exam held in India. These exams are a gateway to prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology. This is the first time that IIT has released answer keys before the final results are out.
