Paper1 had 60 questions in total for 210 marks – in the order of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Each subject had 20 questions and the pattern was exactly the same for all the subjects.
Pattern of Paper 1:
Q.No.1 to 10 – Single Correct Choice Type (10 questions for 30 marks). +3 for correct answer and negative 1 for wrong answer
Q.No. 11 to 20 – Multiple Correct Choice Type (10 questions for 40 marks). +4 for correct answer with NO negatives
Q.No. 21 to 30 – Paragraph Type(10 questions for 30 marks). There were 2 paragraphs- one paragraph with 2 questions and the second one with 3 questions. All questions were of Single Correct Choice Type. +3 for correct answer and negative 1 for wrong answer
Q.No.31 to 40- Integer Type (10 questions for 40 marks). Answers were of single digit (ie, 0 to 9) . +4 for correct answer with NO negatives.
Q.No.41 to 50 – Single Correct Choice Type (10 questions for 30 marks). +3 for correct answer and negative 1 for wrong answer
Q.No. 51 to 60 – Multiple Correct Choice Type (10 questions for 40 marks). +4 for correct answer with NO negatives
Instructions for the exam was given in the front sheet itself and only 2 pages were provided for rough work. Among the subjects, students felt that Mathematics was a bit tough while Chemistry was easier.
IIT-JEE 2011 Paper 2 had 60 questions in total for 240 marks – in the order of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Each subject had 20 questions and the pattern was exactly the same for all the subjects.
Pattern of Paper 2:
Q.No.1 to 10 – Single Correct Choice Type (10 questions for 30 marks). +3 for correct answer and negative 1 for wrong answer
Q.No. 11 to 20 – Multiple Correct Choice Type (10 questions for 40 marks). +4 for correct answer with NO negatives. There was NO partial marking as well.
Q.No. 21 to 30 – Integer Type (10 questions for 30 marks). Answers were of single digit (ie, 0 to 9) . +4 for correct answer with NO negatives.
Q.No.31 & 40- Matrix Match Type (10 questions with 40 rows each – for 16 marks). There were 4 elements in the first column to be matched with 5 elements in the second column. Each row carried 2 marks. There were NO negative marking.
Q.No.41 to 50 – Single Correct Choice Type (10 questions for 30 marks). +3 for correct answer and negative 1 for wrong answer
Q.No. 51 to 60 – Multiple Correct Choice Type (10 questions for 40 marks). +4 for correct answer with NO negatives
Chemistry section in Paper2 was difficult compared to Paper1. Mathematics and Physics sections were only moderately difficult
