Bromine water decolourise with an alkene. This is because alkenes are unsaturated and have a carbon=carbon double bond

ALKENES AND ALKYNES DECOLORISES BROMINE WATER. THIS BECAUSE BROMINE ATTACK THE UNSATURATED BOND.AND AN NON CLASSICAL CARBOCATION FORMATION TAKES PLACE AS AN INTERMEDIATE STEP.DUE TO WHICH BROMINE GETS ATTACHED TO UNSATURATED POSITIONS.

its very simple, yaar! alkenes and alkynes decolourises bromine water.actually, bromine attack the unsaturated hydrocarbones and just react with them to break the multiple bonds and form halo alkanes.and so the independent identity of bromine loses and it decolourises.it is the actual answer.ankit has told also nearly same but he had just made it complex. for example- from ethene to Di bromo ethane.

1 mole of br2(bromine gas) attak on 1 mole of alkene and 1 mole of br2 attack on 1 mole of alkyne. the rxn is anti addition by markovni’s rule.since Br-Br bond gets broken in to Br+ and Br- bromine colur gets discharged to become colour less

u must be thinkig that 2 moles of bromine should attack 1 mole of alkyne? but thats not so
